Luke Burgis is an entrepreneur who founded several multi-million dollar start-ups and is now a seminarian for the Diocese of Las Vegas studying at the Pontifical North American College in Rome, Italy. Before he entered seminary formation, Luke was the founder of ActivPrayer, a fitness tool for the New Evangelization.
After graduating from New York University’s Stern School of Business, Luke worked at major Wall Street investment banks Morgan Stanley and Citigroup and was a Vice President at a venture capital firm. His career in finance took him from New York to living in Thailand and Hong Kong for two years. At the age of 24, he quit his job to become an entrepreneur in California.Luke’s first companies, Healthy Vending and Fit Fuel, were started out of a spare bedroom in a California apartment. Both grew to be very successful organizations. He was named “One of the Top 25 Entrepreneurs Under the Age of 25” in America by Business Week magazine in 2006. Despite the successes, he later went through a bankruptcy before starting his most important project - ActivPrayer.
ActivPrayer is the belief that inspired action dedicated to an intention greater than self has the power to change the world. It was founded in large part as a fitness movement based on the "Theology of the Body". ActivPrayer operates fitness clubs, a website, and offers seminars and conferences that help people do and coach fitness from a deeply personal and Christian perspective.Luke is currently studying Theology at the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross in Rome, Italy, and is a seminarian at the Pontifical North American College. He is a Certified Strength & Conditioning Specialist (C.S.C.S.). He loves free play, poker (with a 5 cent buy-in), snowboarding, and BBQ'ing.
