The Kende Trio was formed in 1997 by
sisters: Alexis, violin; Crista, viola/piano; and Daniela, cello. An article on
the 10-year anniversary of the trio appeared 8/12/07 in the Sunday NY Times.
The Kende sisters began their musical journey playing at their church a decade
before the trio was formed and their music continues to be an expression of
their Catholic faith. Their greatest honor remains playing for Pope John Paul
II in 1999 during Palm Sunday mass in St. Peter’s Basilica and performing the
Ave Maria at the General Audience as the Holy Father blessed the handicapped
from around the world. They performed at the beatification of Padre Pio for
Cardinal O’Connor and for the order he founded, The Sisters of Life.
They
appear regularly at benefits/fundraisers for pro-life and other worthwhile
causes including Good Counsel homes for unwed mothers and at annual Interdenominational pro-life services organized by Daniela at Princeton University.
All three sisters are Juilliard-trained
musicians and graduates/students of Princeton
University where they
performed as soloists with the university orchestra and also received music
performance certificates. In 2007, the trio performed at the LI Mozart Festival
and Sevenars in Massachusetts,
where they will again appear summer of ‘08 to celebrate the 40th
anniversary with festival founders and long-time friends, the Schrade family.
In 2005, the Kende sisters organized a 6-week festival, “Music Under the Trees”
at Bailey Arboretum with younger brother, Stefan, a Juilliard-trained double
bassist.
The Kende musicians have
appeared at numerous festivals and concert venues in the U.S. and abroad including: Schlern International Music Festival in Bolzano, Italy;
Pinkas Zuckerman Young Artists Program in Ottawa;
Bridgehampton, and Bargemusic in NY. Concert appearance highlights include: the
Church of All Nations “Concerts for A Cure”, Webb Naval Institute, St. John’s
University, Westbury Gardens, Nassau County Museum, North Shore University
Hospital, Pilgrim Psychiatric facility and holiday concerts at N. Shore
University Hospital, the Renaissance cerebral palsy residence and many nursing
homes. The Kende sisters have performed numerous introduction to music concerts
for children at libraries and schools in the tri-state area in addition to
operating teaching studios in NY and NJ.
All three sisters began their music studies nearly two decades ago on
violin, later adding viola, cello and piano. They have appeared on WQXR Radio,
NBC-TV “Today”, WABC-TV News and other print and broadcast media.
