Travels from: Vancouver, Washington
Hailing
from the northwest is today's Catholic rock band, The Thirsting. Under the direction of band leader Daniel
Oberreuter, The Thirsting began in the spring of 2006. In the winter of 2006/07
The Thirsting recorded their first 3 song EP "No Greater Love." Recorded live at Crossroads studio in
Vancouver, Washington, produced by Greg Cooper, and engineered by Darren Bowls,
"No Greater love" packs 3 Catholic gems that display the bands great
creativity, skill, and ability to create cutting edge Catholic music that
connects with today's Catholic youth. Since their release of "No Greater
Love," The Thirsting has quickly caught the attention of many in the
Catholic music scene. With the EP's
opening song "In this Sacrament," listeners are immediately hit with
pounding rhythms and a soaring melody that sings of the greatness of the
sacrament of reconciliation and the need for repentance. "In this Sacrament" is then
followed by "I am not worthy," which borrows as it's refrain, "I
am not worthy to receive you Lord, but only say the word and I shall be
healed," from the text of the english liturgy of the Roman Rite. Inspired by Oberreuter's participation in
daily mass, "I am not Worthy" reflects on the mystery of the
Eucharist and presents a liturgical action in a medium of rock n' roll. The final track on the EP titled "Ocean of Mercy," highlights the bands
diversity by showcasing the piano and Oberreuter's lyrical ability to reflect
on God's mercy. "Ocean of Mercy"
may perhaps also be the song the band is most renowned for as the lyrics, which
were inspired by the writings of St. Faustina, reflect on the struggle in the
human soul to turn back to God and to embrace His mercy.
Since
their release of "No Greater Love"
The Thirsting has managed to play over 25 shows. Some of their highlights from the road
consist of opening for Matt Maher in August of 2006, playing at the Arch
Diocese of Seattle junior high youth convention, opening for Hyper Static
Union, and playing along side bands like, Leeland, Thousand Foot Krutch,
MXPX, Falling up, and other mega
Christian bands at Joshua Fest 07. The
Thirsting is a new breed in rock music and a revolution to Catholic ministry,
and will be a band to watch in the coming years that offers a powerful witness
of faith for the Catholic Church.
