"Miss Georgia / Pure Fashion"
Travels from: Atlanta, GA
Her
story inspires and teaches the power of God and human greatness within us
all. Her genuine and unique experiences push any audience to want to
become better individuals, and most of all, better Catholics.
Brenda
Sharman has been working as one of the Southeast's busiest professional
models and commercial actresses for the last 19 years. She has appeared
in numerous catalogs, magazines, fashion shows and ad campaigns for
clients such as Marriott, MGM Grand, Sandals Resorts, PGA Golf,
Steinmart and Elixsure cough medicine. She can also be found hosting industrial
videos and appearing in numerous television commercials for clients from coast
to coast.
In
1990, Brenda was crowned Miss Georgia USA after winning the first pageant
she ever entered. She went on to finish among the top six in the 1990
Miss USA Pageant and from there was sent to represent the United States in the
international "Miss Flower Queen Pageant" held in Osaka Japan.
Brenda competed against women from 36 countries from around the world and won!
Today,
Brenda especially enjoys working with her husband, Steve, who has also been one
of the South's busiest models for the last 25 years. Their work as a
"model couple" has taken them to exciting locations like Aruba, Barbados,
Curacao, Jamaica
and St. Lucia.
They have two young sons who have joined, among many things, the family
business and enjoy working with Mom and Dad in print advertisements as well as
modeling in Fashion Shows.
After
growing up in an Agnostic family, Brenda’s search for God began in 1995 during
her pregnancy with her first son Stephen. Through the miracle and gift of
becoming a mother, she felt a growing need to discover "Who is God and
where can He be found? As a new mother, Brenda realized her
responsibilities to properly nurture her children included answering big
questions like, "Where did we come from." At that moment, she realized the vital search she needed to undertake to learn answers to her questions. Saying that she had "some studying to do" would have been a gross understatement.
She studied hard and while researching various world religions, Brenda began to
read the Bible and the differences between Christianity and Catholicism, which
she always felt were basically the same thing. After delving deeply into the roots
of both Catholicism and Christianity and realizing the coherence of the Church
Fathers, Brenda could see clearly that the Catholic Church was the true Church
founded by God and the one He was calling her to become a part of.
At
the Easter Vigil in April of 1999, Brenda's life was forever changed after receiving
the Sacraments of Baptism, Holy Communion and Confirmation. She stated
she immediately felt like a different person and directly related with
Corinthians 5:17 which says, "If anyone is in Christ, he is a new
creation; the old has passed away and the new has come."
One
of the specific areas of Brenda's life that was deeply impacted by the
realization that she had been called to be a "Woman of God” was her
modeling career; her profession and one of the largest parts of her
life. The big question was would she or would she not model the way
she had for as long as she could remember? She no longer felt comfortable
having a photograph of herself wearing undergarments in the Sunday newspaper
although she had been modeling lingerie for most of her career. “I
realized that our culture had grown increasingly more immodest, and
indecent, and I had to decide if I was going to be part of the problem or part
of the solution”, said Brenda. “I also realized that out of Christian
charity, I should never knowingly or willingly lead another person into an
occasion of sin by the way I look, act, dress or speak. My new measuring
stick became, ‘Never do anything at work that I wouldn’t want shown to my
entire Parish on a Sunday morning!’ ”
At
home in Atlanta, you will find Brenda teaching adult education classes,
teaching PSR (CCD) in her local Parish and serving as the National
Director for Pure Fashion, the country's fastest growing character
formation program for teen girls! Her insight into the world of fashion
and advertising has helped to establish the Pure Fashion program
as a fun and effective program which helps young women realize their inherent
dignity and cultivates in them a desire to live, act and dress in accordance
with that dignity. With Pure Fashion focusing on young women
dressing modestly and protecting their purity, Brenda truly believes that
through Pure Fashion, we really can change our culture.... one outfit at a time!
