"Homeschooling and Family"
Travels from: Whitehall, PA
The uninterrupted life is not worth living. That's been Susie Lloyd's motto ever since she started writing... while raising seven children with her husband Greg... and homeschooling them. In fact, the real reason she enjoys public speaking is that she gets to finish a sentence. Besides, people never applaud at home.
Actually, the real reason she speaks is simply: people ask.
People feel connected with her through her articles in magazines like Faith and Family and The Latin Mass. Her work has also appeared in Inside Catholic, Franciscan Way, and The National Catholic Register. Susie's humor appeals to all kinds of faithful Catholics, in particular parents.
She believes that the Catholic Faith is the pearl of great price and that homeschooling is one very effective way to preserve it in families. Just don't try it alone. For over ten years, Susie Lloyd's humor has helped Catholic families know they are not alone in the world.
In 2004, she turned her own comedy of errors into the hilarious book, Please Don't Drink the Holy Water! (Sophia) which garnered the second of her three Catholic Press Association awards. In 2009, Bless Me Father, for I Have Kids, (Sophia) arrived to great reviews.
"Even better than the first book and I didn't believe anything could top Please Don't Drink the Holy Water."
"Susie Lloyd so perfectly captures the hilarious ins and outs of everyday family life."
These comments don't come from paid reviewers. They come from other moms. As one mom said, "It makes me feel as if I am not the only one out there struggling, trying to keep it together."
Susie is committed to the same degree of excellence in her speaking as she has achieved in her writing. Writing well and speaking well are two separate skills. So in addition to speaking at conferences, Susie hones her skills regularly in a vibrant local Toastmasters Club - where she has won several blue ribbons.
"Excellent!"
"Susie Lloyd is a natural."
Susie has done numerous radio, print and online interviews and has appeared on EWTN.
Among other themes, she has given talks on: Gratitude - Seeing God's Will when People Insult You; Risk Taking - a Necessary Part of Christian Life; and Milk and Honey - the Two Ingredients of a Good Education.
People always ask her when she finds time for writing. No problem. There's plenty of time between dropping kids off for piano lessons and orthodontia appointments. She writes from the middle bench of her full-size van. It is quite comfortable and it's the only uninterrupted place she's got.
